Riaz Merchant, President

As President, Riaz is responsible for setting Mertech's direction and overall profitability. Given his extensive knowledge of the database market and being one of the architects of Mertech's ISDBC technology, Riaz is also responsible for setting product directions, marketing and business development.

Riaz is a graduate of Florida International University, Miami. While at FIU, Riaz was involved in research related to application of neural networks to power-load forecasting and has several publications in this area. Before starting Mertech, Riaz worked as a developer at Data Access Corporation, where he was responsible for developing and maintaining DataFlex on Unix platforms.

Shirley Merchant, CFO

Shirley is responsible for Mertech's finances and overall administration. With her extensive background in dealing with Mertech's customers, Shirley is also responsible for sales coordination.

Shirley has a Master's degree in Accounting from Florida International University, Miami. Prior to joining Mertech, Shirley worked as an auditor at BDO-Seidman, Miami, specializing in publicly traded companies.

Gandalf Hernandez, Vice President of Product Engineering

A key member of Mertech's development team, Gandalf is responsible for development of Mertech's infrastructure, as well as internal systems.

Gandalf graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden with a Master's degree in Computer Science, and holds an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business. Prior to joining Mertech, Gandalf was a co-founder of BIP.NET, the first free internet service provider in Sweden.

Jose Antonio Bassi , Managing Director, Mertech Data Systems Brasil, Ltda.

Bassi overseas overall operations of Mertech Brasil and is also responsible for sales and business development activities in Brazil. Prior to joining Mertech Brasil, Bassi maintained his own law practice specializing in corporate and software law. He also served as general counsel for Mertech in Brazil.
